    An Ethical Dilemma

A few weeks ago, an Alabama physician announced that he would no longer treat people who refused COVID-19 vaccination. A few days later, Burke Allen interviewed me on The Big Time Talker Podcast and asked whether that doctor's action was consistent with medical ethics. Frankly, I wasn't sure, but I told him I personally wouldn't take that position. But was the Alabama physician's stance ethical? The question troubled me so much that I enlisted Ronald Pies, MD, a Lecturer on B

COVID-19 in Tennessee-Now our children are dying

As you may know, I am an Associate Professor of Neurology and Division Director of Neurology at Regional One Health, a "safety net" hospital in Memphis, TN. In this otherwise wonderful city, we are struggling with full hospitals and dying patients, in large part due to poor vaccination rates and incomplete adherence to masking. The situation here is so bad the National Guard just arrived to assist. For more background on this ongoing catastrophe, check out this essay publishe

Physicians and Vaccinations-Where do they stand?

Billie Wickstrom of Locumpedia was kind enough to interview me for this interesting article regarding how physicians approach the question of COVID-19 mandatory vaccination. It's a well-written concise summary. Your comments are appreciated! #COVID19 #vaccination #vaccinationhesitancy #medicalsociety #COVID #healthcaregroups #CDC

    COVID19 "Long-Haulers"-Fact or Fiction?

Vascular Biologist William Li, MD, and I had a nice chat on ReachMD.com about patients who have survived COVID19 infection but present later with a myriad of symptoms, up to 100 different ones according to Dr. Li. The National Institutes of Health has given this constellation of symptoms a name, "Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC)." Click here to listen to Dr. Li share his expertise on the after-effects of COVID19. Your feedback is welcome. More interesting interviews at

An Unexpected COVID-19 Vaccine Side Effect

Many thanks to Kevin Pho, MD, from KevinMD.com, for inviting me to discuss my essay, "An unexpected COVID-19 vaccine side effect." Over the years, I've written several articles for KevinMD.com, but this is the first time I've had an opportunity to speak with Kevin on his podcast. Maybe it had something to do with my article getting 38,000 shares! During the interview, Kevin brought me through my own experience of COVID-19 vaccination. Initially, I suffered trepidation regardi

    Vaccination-My Why

I'm amazed that it's still necessary to express a strong opinion regarding the importance of vaccination. As if the fact that more than 2,000 people die every day in the US from COVID-19 infection isn't sufficient argument to get vaccinated, here's a sad tale from my own city. A 37 year old physician, newly married, died from a delayed immune response to COVID. This type of reaction is much more common in children but has been reported in a couple-dozen adults. VaccinE story strikes a Nerve

Last week I published a story on KevinMD. I have written for KevinMD a few times. My previous article, "Life Hacks from a 9-month old infant," summarized the wisdom I had gained from my baby son, Jack. The article garnered 159 shares, which I was pleased to see. Everyone likes babies! My experience with the COVID-19 vaccination, "An unexpected COVID-19 vaccine side effect," clearly resonated with the audience. It has been shared 25,000 times! Even my hospital, Regional One H

    Vaccination Euphoria

Last Friday, I hurried to the hospital to receive my second Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination, which must be administered 21 days after the first. I harbored some trepidation about possible adverse events, which are more common with the shot. Something very unexpected happened. How Covid kills

In Episode #25 of The Art of Medicine with Dr. Andrew Wilner, I had the pleasure of speaking with Maureen Czick, MD. Dr. Czick is a locum tenens anesthesiologist and author of an intriguing publication that explores the role of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the pathophysiology of COVID-19 (Czick et al. 2020). Dr. Czick shared how locum tenens returned “agency” to her life, which allowed her to spend more time with her family and pursue other interests, such as writin

I am thrilled that my new podcast, "The Art of Medicine with Dr. Andrew Wilner," was named by Feedspot.com as one of the "Top 20 Physician Podcasts You Must Follow in 2020."
