Many thanks to Andrew Varga, MD, PhD, for sharing his research on the newly discovered glymphatic system. It appears that the glymphatic system plays a role in removing toxins and waste products from the brain, especially during sleep. The glymphatic system may play a role in preventing neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's as well. It's presence and activity during sleep emphasize that sleep should be prioritized if one wishes to stay healthy!
