Measles Cancels Fall Break for some Kids...

Last week was Fall Break in Memphis, TN, and I had the opportunity to travel for the first time to Orange Beach, Alabama, with my wife and 7-year-old. The miles of white sand were dotted with happy children, vigilant parents, and doting grandparents.
It was a heartwarming scene until I realized that many children had their beach trip cancelled. Why? Because they had measles! Over 4000 children this year so far, with 451 of them hospitalized, and at least a couple of deaths. Nearly every child was unvaccinated... What could be sadder than watching a child suffer unnecessarily? Measles was eradicated in the United States back in 2000. Now, thanks to those who didn't get vaccinated, it is making a comeback.
Which brings me to last week's episode of The Art of Medicine with Dr. Mike Myers who wrote "The Vaccine Bible." Dr. Myers offers down-to-earth information and advice about vaccinations. Please check it out. Next week, one of my favorite people, Dr. Allison Nazinitsky, will talk about her portfolio career as a locum tenens infectious disease specialist, real estate professional, telemedicine doc, and expert witness. Allison's episode will air on October 25, 2026. Please don't miss it!
