The Art of Medicine

About a year ago, I started a Youtube channel to introduce my new book, "The Locum Life: A Physician's Guide to Locum Tenens." Over the next few months, I posted brief videos to complement each of the book's 20 chapters.

To broaden the content, I experimented with a couple of interviews. Dr. Haneen Abu-Remaileh, founder of Locumunity, and Dr. Cory Fawcett, a retired surgeon with locum tenens experience and author of several books on physician finance, were kind enough to participate as my first interview subjects. They both did an excellent job.

Today, I'm continuing this series with an interview with Nichole Paskett, a senior recruiter for the locum tenens company CompHealth. Nichole was the first staffing agent I ever worked with, and she's played a crucial role in my success with locums. Our interview went so well yesterday that I've divided it into two parts. In Part I, Nichole explains why she got interested in locums and has she's stayed with it for more than a dozen years. She describes how a staffing agency can help out with problems that occur on assignment as well as travel snafus. Nichole also highlights the two essential qualities for success that locum tenens physicians need to possess, "flexibility" and "communication." Part II of Nichole's interview is still in production and will follow in a week or so.

Over the last year, it's been gratifying to see the increasing interest in this video series. The number of subscribers continues to grow, and I've received lots of positive feedback. Successful interviews require hours of preparation, but I always learn something from my guests. I also edit and produce the videos myself, which is challenging, sometimes satisfying, and always a work in progress. All and all, it's a lot of fun!

To expand the scope beyond locum tenens, I've retitled the video series, "The Art of Medicine." The new title offers the freedom to explore other topics of interest to physicians, such as the creative and medical arts. It's going to be an exciting year!

For those of you focused on learning more about locums, rest assured you won't be forgotten! I've already lined up an interview with a tax expert who specializes in locum tenens physicians! I'll make sure to post his interview before April 15th!

Please enjoy these blogs and videos. Your feedback is always welcome! Thanks for reading, watching, and listening! If you haven't already, please subscribe to, "The Art of Medicine," by clicking the little box at the end of the video!
