Earlier this week, I received formal recognition, along with a roomful of others, of 5 years of service at Regional One Health in Memphis, TN (photo below). I am pleased to report that I love my job! I get to care for patients who need my help. Many of these patients are indigent, a population I have extensive experience treating and enjoy. I also teach highly motivated residents and medical students clinical neurology. And I do a minimum of administrative work as Division Director of Neurology. This is not to say that my day is perfect, but the pluses vastly outweigh the minuses.
These days when so many physicians suffer burnout to the point they retire early or leave for nonclinical careers, I feel lucky to have found such a productive and pleasant clinical niche!
Five more years!
